Concept.
The best direction for an inflatable kayak steering system was to make an entirely removal unit. this direction was to eliminate any chance of bending or kinking when the kayak is deflated and folded.

Prototype.
Prototypes for the steering were built with our in-house 3D printer plus stock hardware and fabrics. I focused on the design of the steering handle and steering base. My colleagues focused on the rudder side of the system. Finally, collaborating on joining the steering handle to the rudder using stainless steel cables. Prototypes were tested over one year.



Samples.
Tools for injection molding were purchased based on the approval of 3D-printed parts. Correct materials, colors, and hardware were used, tested then approved for production.
Production.
Our vendor met the delivery date for the first PO. We ordered a large MQO for the first PO due to terms with the vendor on minimums. Quality has matched our expectations for production units.
Patent.
March 2022, our patent for the “Track Steering” was released to the public. By leading the project and design I was granted the proprietary inventor.
